Day 1: Arrive Keswick
Station is Penrith. Then bus or taxi to Keswick. Dinner and discuss the route.
Day 2: Keswick to Rosthwaite
Get an early start as we do go up ‘Cat Bells’ in the morning. Footing is a bit of a scramble at times. We eat a packed lunch along the way. And in the afternoon we walk through beautiful woodland then onto expansive grassland. We nestle in for the night at Rosthwaite. 14.5 miles 6-7hrs (elevation gain 2,784ft)
Day 3: Rosthwaite to Buttermere
Ascend up the valley, up ‘Hay Stacks’ which is an old mining cart trail and across to the Lake where Alfred Wainwrights ashes are scattered, before descending down the valley taking in the view of the lakes. A view that is said to be one of the best in the Lake District. 9 miles 6hrs (elevation gain 1,812ft)
Day 4: Buttermere to Keswick
A hike up onto the top of the fells and walking along the top – hitting a peak of 839m. Taking lunch on the fells. 11 miles 5-6hrs (elevation gain 1,734ft) You may want to get an evening train home from Penrith or ask to book another night and return in the morning.
